Jigsaw

David Jameson, FAIA · Built by Steve Howard
The Project

A nationally honored home — and a build that was entirely Steve’s.

The Jigsaw Residence is a single-story suburban house recycled into a contemporary courtyard home. Meshing ribbons of wall and glass wrap an open-air courtyard carved from the original structure; planes of stucco shift seamlessly to plaster as they pass through glass, reading the same inside and out.

Carefully placed clerestory windows flood the rooms with daylight while preserving privacy. Built start to finish by Steve Howard, Jigsaw received the 2009 AIA Institute Honor Award — one of American architecture’s highest national distinctions — along with five regional AIA awards.
