Custom Home Builder in Bethesda, MD

Four houses in Bethesda are published on this site: Jigsaw, Pivoting, Laverock House, and Blaisdell. The work is a renovation, a renovation and addition, a new house, and a remodel.

David Jameson, FAIA, designed Jigsaw and Blaisdell. MODE4 Architecture’s Christopher Tucker, AIA, designed the new work at Pivoting. William Feeney Architect designed Laverock House. The house that Pivoting renovated was originally designed by Robert M. Gurney, FAIA.

Jigsaw turned a single-story house into a courtyard home, with planes of stucco that read as plaster once they pass through the glass. Steve Howard built it on his own, during a brief break from Gibson Builders. It received the 2009 AIA Institute Honor Award, and it was featured in Architectural Digest, Washingtonian, and ArchDaily. Pivoting is a 2023 renovation and addition. Square One was general contractor for the carport, garage, and art studio, and for the mahogany (sapele) and steel pivot doors. The dining room and Japanese moss garden were built by Commonwealth Building Design. Laverock House is new construction from 2015, an AAC-block house with a green roof in a woodland garden, built by PureForm Builders, the firm Steve Howard founded. Blaisdell is a 2003 remodel just outside Bethesda, with recycled-tire roofing, low-VOC paint, and certified hardwood. At Gibson, Steve ran that job as project manager and superintendent. It was his first project with Jameson.
