Two projects in The Plains, Virginia, are on this site, and they share one property. Wildcat Mountain is the main house. Liminal House is the guest house.
David Jameson, FAIA, designed both. PureForm Builders, led by Steve Howard (now Square One), built both.
Wildcat Mountain, completed in 2018, is a stone-and-glass house set into a hilltop. Four major stone walls blend into the landscape. Between them, open-air patios and glass-walled rooms frame the views, and an indoor-outdoor pavilion opens toward the Blue Ridge Mountains. It received a 2020 International Architecture Award. Liminal House, from 2020, is only the guest house on that property. Void spaces sit between heavy walls, glazed rooms look out to the countryside, and a thin glazed volume above turns to the view. It received a 2022 International Architecture Award. The main house remains Wildcat Mountain.
Architect: David Jameson, FAIA. In The Plains, the work on this site is that new house and its guest house, both built by PureForm.
