Two Alexandria houses are on this site: Three Notes and Hull House. One is a renovation and expansion. The other is new construction.
MODE4 Architecture designed Three Notes, with Christopher Tucker, AIA, as principal. David Jameson, FAIA, designed Hull House.
Three Notes is in the Fort Hunt neighborhood. MODE4 renovated and expanded a mid-century, developer-built house on a half-acre wooded site to 6,921 square feet. Vertical towers draw on musical notation. Square One Development Group built it. The house received a Grand Award, Custom Build: Whole House, Renovation, in the Home & Design 2026 Design Excellence Awards. Hull House is new construction from 2016, near Old Town. A stone-clad wall shields the house from the street. Copper-clad rooflines sit on exposed steel, and the living areas open to the rear with floor-to-ceiling glass. PureForm Builders, led by Steve Howard, built it. It received a 2021 Residential Design Architecture Award and a 2018 Washingtonian / AIA|DC Residential Design Award.
Architects: MODE4 Architecture and David Jameson, FAIA. In Alexandria, the work on this site is that renovation and expansion and that new house.
